Weight loss and smoking cessation are important for individuals affected by obesity or tobacco use. Over-the-counter antacids can provide quick relief by neutralizing stomach acid. H2-receptor antagonists, which reduce acid production, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which provide more long-term acid reduction, may be used for more persistent symptoms. If pyrosis is severe or does not respond to these treatments, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. Persistent symptoms may require further evaluation to rule out more serious conditions, such as esophageal ulcers or Barrett's esophagus, and to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that may include prescription medications or lifestyle changes.
